Manchester United footballer Wayne Rooney married his childhood sweetheart, Coleen McLoughlin, yesterday on the Italian Riviera.
Ignoring the heavy rain, the couple exchanged vows at a 17th Century Villa, in the resort of Santa Margherita Ligure.
According to the BBC the deputy mayor of the town, who officiated at the ceremony, said only a few family members were present.
Details of the €6m wedding were kept under wraps as part of a €3m magazine deal with OK!.
The town's deputy mayor Gianni Costa, said the couple, both 22, did not exchange rings.
He said the bride wore a white dress and pearls and Rooney wore a hazel coloured suit with an open-necked shirt.
The white Marchesa wedding gown is believed to have cost over €250,000.
Speaking about the wedding Mr. Costa said: "The ceremony was very simple yet very beautiful."
According to the Belfast Telegraph, the couple paid over €500,000 for Westlife to perform at the reception, which climaxed in a huge fireworks display.
The couple were photographed at the local town hall on Tuesday, where they were believed to have formally declared their intention to wed, as required by Italian law.
